MBK's President Has Life Experience
As MBK's President, I have
several years of volunteer experience in assisting individuals empower themselves. Among my vast array of volunteer
opportunities, I have helped Spanish-speaking, French-speaking and Haitian Creole-speaking immigrants locate babysitting
services free immigration services and how to apply for public housing.
In addition, I have interceded on behalf of NYCHA tenant at risk of losing their apartments because of a lack of
knowledge of their legal rights. I have advised individuals how to apply for apartment programs designed
to help mentally disabled individuals, and how to contact not-for-profit organizations like http://www.cucs.org that act as essential-service providers and advocates.
I have
worked in facilities for HIV-infected individuals and provided a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, but most importantly,
the means and information by which those who are disenfranchised become empowered.
As a member of the most of the most politically and legally disenfranchised group in the United States, I have experienced
and understand the lingering racism that continues to keep native-born African Americans, the poor, the mentally ill, undocumented aliens
and other politically powerless groups disenfranchised. As a mentally-disabled mother who fought to get her own
children out of foster care, learned to three foreign languages and volunteered to assist scores of individuals in those languages
without charge -- I can can truthfully say that the greatest happiness I have ever had has always come from giving
of myself to others.
Please call to discuss your situation.
Let me and the rest of MBK help you to become legally, politically and socially empowered.
Thank you.
